First bike ride of the season

We went on our first family bike-ride of the season this afternoon! My gimpy knee held up surprisingly well; whether that is the result of taking it easy for the past month or so or the exercises the PT has me doing is something we'll never know. We went out to look at a house in Belmont (verdict: eh.), and then stopped at a playground where the kids were able to climb around and otherwise amuse themselves for a while.

On the way home, we stopped at Mr. Crepes for lunch...which turned into an impromptu picnic, since when we arrived in Davis Square Kira had fallen asleep in the trailer.

We had ice cream afterwards, and Max had what we think is his first actual ice cream cone, which he handled reasonably well. The cone-vs-dish decision was driven largely by the fact that we have recently been reading Frog and Toad All Year, which includes a story about ice cream cones (which Max is now able to recite just about word for word).

A Max-o named desire

Our next door neighbors have a daughter, Julia, just about Max's age. Her grandmother lives with him, and Max has decided that Julia's grandmother is the most recent recipient of his special attention. A few nights ago, he saw her sitting out on the front porch. Max and I had a conversation that went something like this:

Max: Hey, Julia's Grandma!
Me: Max, the window is closed. She can't hear you.
Max: Hey, Julia's Grandma! Hello!
Me: Max, the window is closed.

We eventually wandered outside so that he could say hello.

Today, Max discovered that Julia's Grandma's name is "Stella"...so he sat in our backyard, doing his best Marlon Brando impression: "Stellllllaaaaaaaa!".
