50 Years of Stupid Grammar Advice - ChronicleReview.com

April 16 is the 50th anniversary of the publication of a little book that is loved and admired throughout American academe. Celebrations, readings, and toasts are being held, and a commemorative edition has been released. I won't be celebrating.

Egg and Sausage Brunch Casserole

This recipe was often served for brunch at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rochester, NY. It can be assembled the night before and then refrigerated. Bake it the following morning.

Ingredients

6 eggs, beaten
6 slices bread, cubed
1 1/2 C shredded sharp cheese
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp salt
2 C half and half
1 lb bulk sausage, browned and drained

To prepare

Butter a 9in by 13in baking dish. Scatter the bread cubes and browned sausage evenly in dish. Scatter shredded sharp cheese on top. In blender container, blend beaten eggs, mustard, salt, and half and half. Pour mixture over contents in dish. Bake 45min at 350°F. May need to bake longer if it was refrigerated ahead of time.

Spider Max!

I discovered this evening that Max can scale the retaining wall in front of our house. Our little boy has made a sudden leap in physical skills -- in addition to his surprise wall-climbing abilities, he's been jumping off of all sorts of things and trying to slide down the fire poles at the playground. We took the bus home this evening, and Max ran from his daycare to the bus stop...fast enough that Papa Gimpy Knee had to shuffle along awful quickly to keep up.

Max on the run

Max did a lot of good walking today. A change of evening plans meant that I was picking Max up a daycare without a stroller, so we had to walk over to the bus stop on Mass Ave. Normally I would have expected some fussing, but today Max just about ran the whole way.

We had to walk from Mass Ave up to Davis Square, too, and he probably would have done that without complaining but we saw our bus go by. Papa decided to make a run for it: I swooped up Max in one arm and went running down the street. Much to my surprise, and thanks largely to the number of people getting on at the nearest bus stop, we actually caught the bus.
