Everybody take cover!

Recently, Max has taken to spontaneously informing us that the "rawwwrrr" is coming. It might be a tiger. It might be a monster. I'm not sure. He doesn't seem particularly concerned about the fact the the rawrrrr is coming, so maybe I shouldn't be worried...but a teeny part of my mind thinks it sounds an awful lot like a plot to a horror movie, and maybe there *is* something coming and Max is the only one who knows.

Maybe someday soon a tiger is going to rampage through the house eating people, and Max is going to look at me and say, "told you so."

Max plays a tune

We had some musical adventures after brunch this morning, culminating with Karen and I playing a very bad flute and trumpet rendition of "When the saints go marching in". The kids loved it (especially the chance to try to make noise with the instruments) and the parents had fun, too.

Apparently this all had quite an impact on Max. Later in the day Max wandered over to my trumpet case making trumpet noises (toot toot!). I took the trumpet out, and gave Max the spare mouthpiece. We played several duets with Max sitting in my lap -- I would play a song on the trumpet, and Max would hold the mouthpiece up to his face toot-tooting away. When the song was over, Max would stop tooting, say, "Yay!" and then, "Again!" and we would play another.

hot, Hot, HOT!

Max discovered two things this past weekend:

  1. Spicy Pad Thai is really quite tasty.
  2. You shouldn't touch your eyes after eating spicy Pad Thai with your fingers.
Fortunately, a towel and a little water took care of things, although for the past several days Max remembers the experience and says, "Owie eyes!".

These are the houses in your neighborhood...

Max, Conny, and I walked home from Lex Park together this evening. On the way, Max told me about all the houses he knows:

  • Ice House (the house were he had ice cream once)
  • Bush House (the house where Butch lives)
  • Opie House (the house where an older man and woman live; Opa is German for Grandfather)
  • Wow House (the house where he saw a cat once)
  • Puppy House (the house where a dog lives)
  • Ice Tea House (the house where some kids were once selling ice tea and we bough some)
  • Papa, Mama, Nonny house (the house where we all live)
That's pretty cool.

A push bike bike for Max

It was probably inevitable, but we've finally decided to purchase a wooden push bike for Max. We were coming back from Belmont on the bike path this weekend when a family walked by in the other direction with their 2.5 year old child zooming down the road on one of these, and he looked like he was having so much fun I decided that Max must have one now! I hope he likes it.

We opted for this one instead of this one mostly because it costs less. There appear to be a dozen or so others available, including a much cheaper one available at Target.
